US Rebar Final Imports

U.S. Steel Rebar Final Imports: Rebar final imports to the U.S. came in at 108,092 tons for the month of January 2021, more than double since December 2020. Rebar imports include: concrete reinforcing bars and rods of iron or non-alloy steel, irregularly wound coils hot-rolled, concrete reinforcing bars and rods of other alloy steel, not further worked than hot-rolled, hot-drawn or extruded, and other bars and rods of iron or non-alloy steel, hot-worked, concrete reinforcing bars and rods.

Figure 1 further breaks down total rebar final imports through January 2021. When looking at the current month, we see comparable numbers to January 2020.

Figure 2 charts the largest exporting countries to the U.S. in rank order through January. Turkey was the largest exporter of rebar with 77,063 tons this month (71%). Mexico was the second-largest exporter with 21,478 tons. Canada was the third-largest rebar exporter to the U.S. with 4,930 tons. Together these three exporters accounted for 96% of the total.

Figure 3 charts the largest imports by district of entry to the U.S. in rank order through January 2021. The New Orleans, LA port was the largest receiver of rebar in January, receiving 29,455 tons. Houston-Galveston, TX was the second-largest receiver coming in at 26,707 tons. Miami, FL was the third-largest receiving port with 20,901 tons.
