US Beam Final Imports

U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports: Beam final imports came in at 32,613 tons for May 2020, up 57% m/m. These include: Angles, Shapes and H Sections, Angles, Shapes and I Sections, Angles H Sections Iron and Non-Alloy Steel Hot-rolled, and Other H Sections.

Figure 1 further breaks down total beam final imports from January 2019 – April 2020. When looking at the current year, it shows that beam imports peaked in February 2020 with 40,308 tons of imports reported.

Figure 2 also charts the largest exporting countries to the US through May 2020. South Korea was the largest exporter of beams with 19,302 tons in May; the United Arab Emirates was the second-largest exporter with 9,674 tons. Mexico was the third-largest beams exporter to the US with 2,304 tons. Together these three exporters accounted for 96% of the total.

Figure 3 also charts the largest imports by district of entry to the US through May 2020. The Los Angeles, CA port was the largest receiver of beams in May, receiving 12,456 tons of the total 32,613. Philadelphia, PA was the second-largest receiver coming in at 7,009 tons. San Francisco, CA was the third-largest receiver coming in at 5,240 tons. Together, these top three receiving ports collected 76% of all U.S. beam imports.
