U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports
U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports: Final beam imports to the U.S. came in at 23,040 tons for May 2022, down 1.3% since last month. These include: Angles, Shapes and H Sections, Angles, Shapes and I Sections, Iron and Non-Alloy Steel Hot-rolled, and Other H Sections.
Figure 1 further breaks down total beam final imports from January 2019 – May 2022.
Figure 2 charts the largest exporting countries to the U.S. through May 2022. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was the largest exporter of beams with 6,668 tons this month (29%). Mexico was the second-largest exporter with 5,384 tons. South Korea was a close third with 4,078 tons. Together these three exporters accounted for 70% of the total.
Figure 3 also charts the largest imports by district of entry to the U.S. The Philadelphia, PA port was the largest receiver of beams this month, receiving 4,440 tons. Columbia-Snake, OR was the second-largest receiver coming in at 3,880 tons. Laredo, TX was the third-largest receiver coming in at 3,071 tons. Together, these top three receiving ports collected 49.4% of all U.S. beam imports.
