U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports

U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports: Final beam imports to the U.S. came in at 24,537 tons for July 2022, down 57% since last month. These include: Angles, Shapes and H Sections, Angles, Shapes and I Sections, Iron and Non-Alloy Steel Hot-rolled, and Other H Sections.

Figure 1 further breaks down total beam final imports from January 2019 – July 2022.

Figure 2 charts the largest exporting countries to the U.S. through July 2022. South Korea was the largest exporter of beams with 10,187 tons this month (42%). Mexico was the second-largest exporter with 8,710 tons.  Canada was in third with 1,802 tons. Together these three exporters accounted for 84% of the total.

Figure 3 also charts the largest imports by district of entry to the U.S. The Houston-Galveston, TX port was the largest receiver of beams this month, receiving 9,629 tons. Laredo, TX was the second-largest receiver coming in at 5,842 tons.  San Diego, CA was the third-largest receiver coming in at 2,176 tons. Together, these top three receiving ports collected 72% of all U.S. beam imports.
