U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports

U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports: Final beam imports to the U.S. came in at 39,861 tons for August 2022, up 62% since last month. These include: Angles, Shapes and H Sections, Angles, Shapes and I Sections, Iron and Non-Alloy Steel Hot-rolled, and Other H Sections.

Figure 1 further breaks down total beam final imports from January 2019 – August 2022.

Figure 2 charts the largest exporting countries to the U.S. through August 2022. Luxembourg was the largest exporter of beams with 12,701 tons this month (32%). Mexico was the second-largest exporter with 8,920 tons. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was a close third with 8,389 tons. Together these three exporters accounted for 75% of the total.

Figure 3 also charts the largest imports by district of entry to the U.S. The Houston-Galveston, TX port was the largest receiver of beams this month, receiving 11,690 tons. Philadelphia, PA was the second-largest receiver coming in at 5,410 tons.  Laredo, TX was the third-largest receiver coming in at 4,686 tons. Together, these top three receiving ports collected 55% of all U.S. beam imports.
