U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports

U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports: Final beam imports to the U.S. came in at 39,903 tons for January 2023, up 178% since last month. These include: Angles, Shapes and H Sections, Angles, Shapes and I Sections, Iron and Non-Alloy Steel Hot-rolled, and Other H Sections.

Figure 1 further breaks down total beam final imports from January 2019 – January 2023.

Figure 2 charts the largest exporting countries to the U.S. through January 2023. Spain was the largest exporter of beams with 10,576 tons this month (27%). The United Kingdom was the second-largest exporter with 10,094 tons. Luxembourg was a close third with 9,156 tons. Together these three exporters accounted for 75% of the total.

Figure 3 also charts the largest imports by district of entry to the U.S. The Houston-Galveston, TX port was the largest receiver of beams this month, receiving 22,646 tons. Mobile, AL was the second-largest receiver coming in at 5,754 tons. Boston, MA was the third-largest receiver coming in at 4,182 tons. Together, these top three receiving ports collected 82% of all U.S. beam imports.
