U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports

U.S. Steel Beam Final Imports: Final beam imports to the U.S. came in at 39,348 tons for December 2023, up 15% since last month. These include: Angles, Shapes and H Sections, Angles, Shapes and I Sections, Iron and Non-Alloy Steel Hot-rolled, and Other H Sections.

Figure 1 further breaks down total beam final imports from January 2022 – December 2023.

Figure 2 charts the largest exporting countries to the U.S. through December 2023. South Korea was the largest exporter of beams with 27,744 tons this month (71%). Luxembourg was the second-largest exporter with 3,664 tons. Canada was third with 3,325 tons. Together these three exporters accounted for 88% of the total.

Figure 3 also charts the largest imports by district of entry to the U.S. The Houston-Galveston, TX port was the largest receiver of beams this month, receiving 13,799 tons. Los Angeles, CA was the second-largest receiver coming in at 10,257 tons. San Francisco, CA was the third-largest receiver coming in at 3,615 tons. Together, these top three receiving ports collected 70% of all U.S. beam imports.
